THERMTEC THERMAL RIFLESCOPE VIDAR 335 2.0

The ThermTec VIDAR 335 2.0 thermal riflescope is a compact rifle scope from the VIDAR 2.0 series, with a 384×288 pixel sensor (12 µm, NETD ≤ 18 mK, 50 Hz) and a 35 mm lens. The fixed 35 mm F1.0 lens gives 3.2x optical magnification and detection up to 1800 m, in a 188 mm, 566 g body. It starts up in 3 seconds, records photo and video to 64 GB and runs on two replaceable 18650 batteries for up to 18 h.

Features

  • 384×288 sensor, NETD ≤ 18 mK: good sensitivity to separate the animal from the background even with small temperature differences; AI image calibration and a new shutter for fast calibration.
  • 35 mm F1.0 objective lens: 3.2x optical magnification, 7.5° × 5.6° field of view (13.2 × 9.9 m at 100 m) and 1x to 4x smooth or rapid digital zoom.
  • 0.39-inch 1024×768 AMOLED display: 45 mm eye relief, 6 mm exit pupil and ±5 dioptre adjustment; lens focus by a rotary knob on top instead of a ring behind the lens.
  • Reticles and zeroing: 7 reticles in 5 colours (black, white, red, green and blue), reticle polarity reversal, 5 zeroing profiles (A to E), auto or manual zeroing and image freeze for zeroing.
  • Viewing functions: 6 colour palettes (white hot, black hot, red hot, green, golden and violet), target outline mode, hottest-point tracking and picture-in-picture (PIP).
  • Recording and app: photo and video with sound to 64 GB internal memory, recoil-activated video (RAV) and a Wi-Fi hotspot for the ThermTec Outdoor app: live view, file transfer and firmware updates.
  • Two replaceable 18650 batteries: up to 18 h of operation, 3-second start-up and auto shutdown after 30, 60 or 90 minutes.
  • Built for the field: IP67, operation from −20 °C to +50 °C, recoil resistance up to 6000 J on rifled weapons and a silent lens cover with adjustable position.

Why choose this model?

The VIDAR 335 2.0 is the smallest and lightest VIDAR 2.0 scope: 566 g and 188 mm long, with 3.2x magnification and detection up to 1800 m. It suits hunters who want a compact thermal riflescope for night hunting of wild boar and fox at medium distances, with the longest battery life in the series (18 h) and the lowest NETD (≤ 18 mK).

It has no rangefinder or ballistic calculator: those are on the VIDAR 335 LRF 2.0.

How to choose

The VIDAR 2.0 models without rangefinder share the compact body, the 1024×768 AMOLED display, the two 18650 batteries, 64 GB, RAV and the IP67 build; the sensor and lens are what differ. The VIDAR 335 2.0 (384×288, 35 mm, 3.2x, 1800 m detection, 566 g) is the lightest. The VIDAR 360 2.0 (384×288, 20/60 mm, 1.8x/5.5x, 825 g) gives the highest magnification plus a wide field in one scope. The VIDAR 660 2.0 (640×512, 20/60 mm, 1.1x/3.2x, 825 g) gives more resolution and the widest field.

Frequently asked questions

What batteries does the ThermTec VIDAR 335 2.0 use?
It uses two replaceable 18650 batteries that last up to 18 h. Four lithium batteries and a charger come in the box; the scope connects to a computer with the magnetic cable and shows up as a storage drive.

How is the VIDAR 335 2.0 mounted on the rifle?
With the Picatinny base included in the box, screwed to the underside of the scope with 3 screws. The manufacturer recommends mounting it as low as possible and away from the barrel. It is not a tube scope, so it does not use rings.

How far can the VIDAR 335 2.0 detect an animal?
The manufacturer states up to 1800 m. Detection means seeing that there is a heat source; recognising and identifying the animal requires much shorter distances.

How does auto zeroing work?
In the zeroing menu select Auto-Zero and the distance, press OK, fire within the next 15 seconds and save the result to one of the 5 profiles (A to E). Manual zeroing with image freeze is also available.

Does the VIDAR 335 2.0 have a rangefinder?
No. This version does not measure distance and has no ballistic calculator; those functions are on the LRF 2.0 versions of the series.
